Are solar pool heaters more effective mounted on a roof?

I am looking at installing a solar panel heater on my pool. i don’t know if it will heat better on on my porch roof or just to install it over the railing on the deck beside the pool. The roof is only 12′ from the pool so it won’t be a problem to put it there. And what do I need to install on roof, can I build brackets or do I need to purchase something? Thanks

if you are talking about the solar panels as the power source and the actual heating elements being in the pool….. check what the manufacturer recommends…. being on the roof, it is out of the way and not easily accessible to damage and out of sight…. but electronics and conductors do not like heat, so with a black roof and a hot sun may not be good …. solar panels work off the photons from light….not heat… maybe some place cool away from the chance of being damaged, aesthetic (pleasing to the eye) and with the most direct sunlight

The only difference between the roof and elswhere is convenience. Its out of the way on the roof.

Brackets – call the manufacturer or a metal fabricator.

The railing is probably not the best place to install. You will need them to be at a slight angle, not vertical.

    God Bless

I have solar on my roof, and although they say it is bad for your roof, I can’t see why unless it leaks. If you mount it anywhere else, it will probably work as well, as long as it gets the same amount of sun, but if it gets in the way, you’re in trouble.
